Texas county faces long list of gaps identified after recent chemical fires

More monitoring and manpower is needed for Harris County to better respond to chemical fires like the three that struck the region earlier this year, worrying residents and shutting the Houston Ship Channel, according to a study evaluating the county’s response to the fires. The most critical response gap identified involved staffing in the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, where another 16 hazardous materials technicians —at a cost of $1.

Dozens of homes told to evacuate due to Left Hand Fire outside Naches

Dozens of homes have been told to evacuate due to a wildfire that has burned an estimated 2,500 acres of forestland near the Yakima-Kittitas county line. The Left Hand Fire was started by lightning in the Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest off Highway 410 about 17 miles northwest of Naches on Tuesday.

Garden Grove (CA) Fire Department Grants Boy Final Wish to Ride Fire Apparatus

 
 

The Garden Grove Fire Department, along with the Garden Grove Firefighters Association, Operation Be Kind and the OC Drive joined together to make Joshua’s wish come true.  

Doctors estimate that the young boy has about 4 months left to live, and the Garden Grove Fire Station #6 wanted to add something a little extra to Joshua’s surprise.

They found out he was a huge fan of Batman and were able to arrange to have Batman arrive on the fire truck to surprise the young boy.

Joshua and his family were able to ride on the firetruck for a few miles and with Garden Grove Mayor Steve Jones.

Car Crashes Into Fort Worth (TX) Fire Apparatus

 
 
 

Officials say the fire truck was set up along the road to block lanes of traffic after a crash in the southbound lanes of I-35W near Berry Street.  

At around 5:45 a.m., a car slammed into the fire truck, injuring the driver of the car. The driver was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
