Mount Vernon fire bond failing

With early results in Tuesday, the Mount Vernon Fire Department’s nearly $30 million bond request, which would allow it to build a new fire station, is failing. Just over 50% of voters are rejecting the proposal. Bonds require a 60% supermajority to pass. Aside from the new station, the bond would go toward safety and space upgrades at the department’s two other stations.

Plumes from controlled burns beginning to crop up in north-central Washington

According to Grant County Fire District 13 Fire Chief Jim Stuckey, controlled burns in Grant County during this time of year are common. Stuckey said not many acres are expected to be involved in controlled burns this year, with the number of acres not known for sure. He continued to add that controlled burns are conducted by residents near homes and not so much businesses.

Iowa County (WI) Ambulance Crash Injures Three

 
 
She was injured in the crash and was taken to Upland Hills Health before being transferred to a Madison hospital. The patient in the ambulance was April Johnson, 38, Platteville. She was taken to the Madison hospital by Barneveld EMS.

Indian River County (FL) Fire Station to Be Torn Down

Four sealed bids were received for the sale of the old fire station, ranging from $35,000 to $101,000. But during their review of the bids, the county’s public works department identified portions of the parcel that needed to be retained by the county, significantly reducing the size of the parcel to be sold. Station 7 was one of four stations that tested positive for mold toxins and poor air quality in 2015. Firefighters complained for years about respiratory illnesses relating to the mold, and despite remediation, the building was closed in 2016.

Crowdfunding Campaign for Solar Panels on Ann Arbor (MI) Fire Station

 
 

So far, the campaign has netted 33 donations amounting to $1,650, with 29 days left to go. Project costs will be reduced with the help of volunteer labor, said Missy Stults, the city’s sustainability director.  

Ann Arbor has a goal of powering 100% of the city’s municipal government operations with clean and renewable energy sources such as wind and solar by 2035 or sooner.
