DuPont Underscores Importance of Inherent FR Protection at FDIC International

DuPont nano hood

DuPont Safety & Construction announced it will be highlighting the latest innovations in FR protection and safety at FDIC International, April 8-13, 2019 (booth #1501) in Indianapolis. Attendees will receive a firsthand look into the latest in firefighter protection through DuPont Nomex® product enhancements and an informative case study highlighting possible consequences firefighters can endure if proper stationwear is not worn under turnout gear.

DuPont will highlight several new product innovations made with Nomex®, a leading brand in FR protection:

  • Hoods made with Nomex® Nano Flex (above): helps prevent firefighters from being exposed to harmful contaminants without sacrificing comfort or breathability – this innovative solution lets air move through while blocking harmful particulates.
  • Thermal Liners made with Nomex® Nano (below): reduces bulk and weight of turnout gear without compromising protection and helps reduce heat stress.
  • Nomex® for Stationwear (second photo below): provides built-in heat and flame resistance that cannot be worn or washed away while giving the wearer a comfortable, lightweight fit.

Garments that were tested and burned at 1200 degrees Fahrenheit on DuPont’s Thermo-Man® testing unit will be on display to visually showcase and compare the results of stationwear made with Nomex® to cotton and polyester. Only Stationwear made with Nomex® has built-in heat and flame protection that won’t melt, drip or stick to skin when worn under turnout gear.

“FDIC International is the place where firefighters from around the world come together to learn and share with their peers about the latest innovative products and services available to the Fire and Rescue industry, and we are proud to support this community by providing superior solutions for FR protection,” said John Richard, Vice President and General Manager for DuPont Kevlar® and Nomex®. “Whether they are fighting a fire or in the station preparing for the next call, DuPont is dedicated to ensuring the men and women who protect our communities are protected today and tomorrow.”

Attendees will also be able to get a closer look at Toyne’s Pumper demo unit. This apparatus is designed around a 2019 Spartan Metro Star MFD chassis with a 10” raised roof. A 450-horsepower Cummins ISL9 engine and Allison 3000 EVS transmission power the apparatus. To store water, the pumper is outfitted with a 1,000-gallon UPF tank that features an ICI SL Plus tank gauge. Toyne integrated a Hale Qmax, 1,750 gallon-per-minute, top mount pump into the pumper’s design.
