A fire that burned a home in Leschi has been deemed arson, Seattle Fire officials said. The fire broke out just at the two-story home just after midnight Wednesday morning in the 800 block of Lakeside Ave. South, said Kristin Tinsley with Seattle Fire. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the roof and attic space.

For more than half a century, Gerald “Jerry” Sleater helped battle fires in Benton County Fire District 1. Whether it was from a seat in a fire truck or behind a board table, Sleater left his mark on the 320-square-mile district that runs south of Kennewick and Richland.
