Man Seriously Injured, Choked By 2 Off-Duty California Firefighters Awarded $7.4 Million

VIDEO: A man who was seriously injured by two off-duty Los Angeles firefighters who beat and choked him on Halloween night in 2015 has been awarded more than $7 million. After being falsely accused of giving children drug-laced candy, Samuel Chang was held down and choked. Cellphone video captured the firefighters and other party-goers harassing Chang and telling him he came to the wrong place to give out his candy.

Maryland governor pulls for firefighter pension, workers comp bills while at volunteer fire company

Gov. Larry Hogan stepped up his calls to the General Assembly to measures that would reduce the tax burden on public safety officials’ retirement benefits at a press conference at the Eastport Volunteer Fire Company Wednesday. Surrounded by firefighters from across the state, the governor announced the introduction of two pieces of legislation that he said were a necessary way to protect firefighters in the state.

Property tax levy would bolster Spokane public safety

In less than a week, Spokane County voters will decide whether to add additional police officers and retain more than two dozen firefighters. Proposition 1, which appears on the Feb. 12 special election ballot, would fund the hiring of 20 Spokane police officers and retain 30 of the 48 firefighters hired thanks to the SAFER grant two years ago.

House fire in East Central Spokane determined to be accidental

A house fire in East Central Spokane has been determined to be accidental. According to the Spokane Fire Department, investigators determined the fire was ignited when plastic furniture was inadvertently put in contact with a natural gas fueled, free standing fireplace. Matlacha (FL) Getting New Fire Apparatus

 
 

New lighting was added to the truck for greater illumination at night.  

"When equipment gets old, it also becomes less reliable," Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Contro; District Chief Ben Mickuleit  said. "Reliability is important. These new engines are equipped with a 1,000-gallon internal water tank for a quick fire attack and a rear booster reel (1-inch rubber fire hose) for a quicker attack on certain fire scenarios.
