Allen (TX) Fire Department Pierce Arrow XT PUC Quint

Photos and Description by Lindsay Dye

Truck 2 began service with the Allen (TX) Fire Department in February 2017. The cab and chassis are the Arrow XT model with TAK-4 independent front suspension system and TAK-4 independent rear steering system with Super Single rear tires. Seating for six is provided as is an EMS compartment centered on the rear wall of the cab. A Coleman Mach 8 AC unit (13,500-Btu) mounted on the cab roof provides auxiliary temperature control when the apparatus is not in use. The cab and body are constructed of aluminum, and Gortite roll-up compartment doors are part of the body package. SCBA storage is adjacent to the right rear wheel well along with a Stokes box mounted on top of the right side of the apparatus body.

The truck is powered by a 505-hp Detroit DD13 engine and an Allison EVS P 4500 transmission with six speeds and pushbutton shifter. A Harrison 6-kW hydraulic generator is mounted on the right side cargo area. The Pierce Command Zone advanced electronic and control system is featured.

The apparatus has a Pierce single-stage 1,500-gpm PUC pump and a 480 gallon polypropyelen tank. Foam is provided by a Husky 3 System with a 20-gallon foam cell with the lower crosslays plumbed for foam. The front bumper tray accommodates 100feet of 1¾-inch hose. Two 2-inch lower crosslays (200 feet each) and two 3-inch dead lays (150 feet each) are located behind the cab. The hose trough on the right side of the bed accommodates 800 feet of 5-inch LDH.

The aerial is a rear-mount, heavy-duty 105-foot stick constructed of steel that features a steel waterway, an Akron Model 3480 StreamMaster II monitor paired with an Akron Model 5178 electric nozzle. TecNiq LED lighting adorns the aerial for nighttime operations—red and blue lighting on the fly section with blue on the remaining sections. Whelen PFPP1AP LED spot lights are mounted at the ladder tip. A full complement of Duo-Safety ground ladders (35-foot two-section, 24-foot two-section, two 16-foot roof, 14-foot Fresno, and a 10-foot folding) are stored in the torque box, and a Little Giant ladder is stored in a right side compartment.

The warning lights include two Whelen Mini Freedom 24-inch light bars on the cab corners with Whelen M6 and M7 LED lights located around the rig perimeter. Whelen Model L31HRFN LED beacons are mounted on the upper rear corners of the truck. Scene lighting is provided by Whelen Pioneer Model LED lights—one on the cab brow, two on each side of the cab behind the crew doors, and two mounted on each side of the body above the rear wheels. The audio warning device is a Whelen Model 295SLSA1 electronic siren module connected to two Whelen Model SA315P speakers recessed in the front bumper.
