Rutland FD Adds New Firetruck

The truck has a 1,500 gallon-per-minute pump and carries 1,000 gallons of water in an on-board tank.

Engine 4 is equipped with high-efficiency LED scene lighting and an on-board generator the fire department can use if they need power at a scene.

Five people can be seated in the truck’s cab. Larsen pointed out the interior doors are covered with metal and the flooring is also a hardened material. He said the drivers and passengers in a typical vehicle may not have to worry about the materials like that but for an active fire department, having a cab interior that isn’t lined with soft material that might retain germs makes the job safer and maintenance easier.

New Drone Aims To Help Coeur d'Alene Fire Department Fight Wildfires

The department said the drone can save taxpayer money in terms of fuel and wear and tear on their rigs.

For example, Coeur d'Alene Fire said it could be crucial in gauging the size of a fire on Tubbs Hill, or a potential water rescue. Thermal imaging cameras will assist fire crews in pinpointing fires.

"If we can get an aerial view and say this is exactly where this is at, it's pretty small, we can get it pretty quick. Or say, we're going to need a lot more help on this," said Coeur d'Alene Fire District Deputy Chief Bill Deruyter. "It would be great. Because the more information we can get about a scene, the better it is for us for response."

Voters Approve $14M Bond To Build New Firehouse

The current 19,000-square-foot headquarters will be demolished. District officials have said the facility, built in 1941 and expanded in the 1960s and 1980s, is obsolete, cramped and prone to roof leaks. Firefighters currently change into their gear in bays, just a few inches from trucks as they prepare to respond to calls, officials said.

The new firehouse will be constructed on the site of the current facility and will have new storage space and a separate room where firefighters can change into their gear, district officials said.

Campo said the new facility will have a training room and space for the department's emergency medical technicians. Truck bays will be wider, and the new building will have a washer and dryer system to clean fire gear of contaminants that collect on firefighter uniforms.
