Lake Shore (MD) Fire Station Opens

The new 13,000-square-foot, $6 million station is on the site of the old Pasadena Hardware, near Maryland Avenue and Forest Drive, next to Galilee Lutheran Church. Firefighters began moving in and operating from the new home of the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company on Sunday afternoon.  

"Over the last three and a half years, Anne Arundel County has undertaken a major effort to address our public safety infrastructure," said Schuh. "This new volunteer fire station is a bricks and mortar example of our unwavering commitment to public safety."

This new station sits on about 3.5 acres and is just over 12,000 square feet. It replaces a fire station that was built in the 1940s. The new station incorporates "green" site and design features including solar technology, Energy Star appliances, landscaping and irrigation efficiency strategies, low emission appliances, stormwater control and is LEED Silver certified.

Parkersburg (WV) Fire Department Receives Fire Equipment

Each section of hose costs $110, and the club bought 20 sections and donated them to the department.  

Bill Leuschel of the Elks Riders says that first responders their drug-awareness run earlier this year at City Park, which inspired inspired the club to give back.

Federal Grant for White Plains (NY) Rescue Training

In announcing the funding, U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Harrison, said that first responders put their lives on the line and that they must "training to perform their critical public service while ensuring their own safety."   

Lowey pledged to "continue to secure these vial resources for our emergency personnel" as the highest ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee.

Farmington Hills (MI) Fire Department Receives Fire Equipment

At the event, the City’s Fire Department received four automated external defibrillators (AEDs), valued at more than $6,000. AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest where the heart unexpectedly stops beating.  

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation provides lifesaving equipment and needed resources to first responders and public safety organizations through a quarterly grant program.  

The Farmington Hills Fire Department received the four AEDs through the efforts of Sergeant Jarod Foshag, who undertook the initiative to seek out and apply for the grant.  At the award event, lifesaving equipment with a total value of more than $260,000 was awarded to 14 regional fire departments.

Newark (NJ) Rolls Out New Fleet Of Fire Apparatus

 Newark officials announced the purchase of 46 new fire, public works, and sanitation vehicles, unveiling some of them - including new aerial ladder fire trucks - at a press conference in front of City Hall.

The new vehicles include:

  • 3 new, custom 110-foot aerial ladder fire trucks
  • 7 new Haz-Mat fire vehicles
  • 11 new sanitation dump trucks
  • 9 new street sweepers
  • 6 agency vehicles
  • 3 Volvo Front-end Loaders
  • 2 International Medium Dump trucks
  • 3 Chevy Mason Dump Trucks
  • 2 Ford Utility Bodies
