Florida commissioners change light-duty policy for pregnant firefighters

Future pregnant firefighters no longer have to worry about losing pay if the doctor advises against them going out on rescue calls. County commissioners Tuesday unanimously approved a light-duty option for pregnant firefighters. "It's long overdue," Commissioner Joe Flescher said. The policy, which has been ratified by the International Association of Firefighters Local 2201, removes pregnancy as a condition ineligible for light or restricted duty.

Spokane: Family of 12 thrown from raft at Bowl and Pitcher in Riverside State Park; 1 person dead

Firefighters were called to the Bowl and Pitcher area in Riverside State Park Tuesday afternoon for a reported water rescue. Brian Schaeffer with the Spokane Fire Department says two boats were involved in a collision on the Spokane River. One boat capsized and 12 people were thrown into the river.

Man pleads guilty to arson in 2015 Central Washington fire

A 39-year-old man has admitted to setting a fire that destroyed nearly 30 homes in north-central Washington in 2015. Jeremy Kendall of Wenatchee pleaded guilty to first-degree arson Tuesday in Chelan County Superior Court. Chelan County Prosecutor Douglas Shae says Kendall was sentenced to 27 months in prison.

First all-female fire shift in Spokane County

In a Facebook post, the district wrote, "These awesome volunteers serve citizens of the West Plains with integrity and dedication. their backgrounds are varied, and their experiences are wide ranging bringing to the district a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Nisqually John Fire burning at least 40 acres along Snake River in Whitman Co.

Crews responded to a wildfire along the Snake River Wednesday. The Nisqually John Fire has burned at least 40 acres of mostly rural land and has continued to grow at a rapid pace, according to the Colton Fire Department. On Thursday morning, crew from Spokane Fire District eight, nine and 10 were sent to the fire.
