Hundreds to attend Eastern Washington Interagency Fire Training Academy

Hundreds of firefighters will head to class at Deer Park High School this week for hands-on training and interactive lessons as part of the Eastern Washington Interagency Fire Training Academy. About 350 firefighters from 14 different organizations will join together for leadership classes, wildfire attack plan simulations and helicopter training.

Helicopter crashes after hitting power lines in Orondo

Fire crews from Orondo and Chelan, along with Douglas County Sheriff's deputies responded to a helicopter crash in the area of Cascade Foothills in Orondo, about four miles south of Beebe Bridge. When crews arrived they found a helicopter in the orchard sitting upright. The helicopter had heavy damage to the tail section and burn damage through the shell of the aircraft from impact with the high-tension electrical power lines.

College Place considers taking on own ambulance services

City and fire department officials are considering whether to start providing basic life support ambulance transports. College Place is the biggest user of the Walla Walla Fire Department’s ambulance services outside of Walla Walla, with about 900 ambulance runs a year to College Place, and it costs the Walla Walla Fire Department $70,344, Chief Bob Yancey said.

Neighbors report Spokane house fire while police respond to domestic violence call

At approximately 4:40 p.m. on Saturday, the Spokane Fire Department, Spokane Police Department and Spokane County Fire District 9 were dispatched to a structure fire in the 7700 block on N. Maple St. on the 5 Mile Prairie. Members of the Spokane Police Department arrived on scene first and reported that the structure was on fire and had been evacuated.
