Chehalis Updates Fire Response Agreement, FEMA Grant Application

The Chehalis City Council approved a pair of requests on Monday that stand to benefit the Chehalis Fire Department. Councilors voted without objection to allow Fire Chief Ken Cardinale to join the Riverside Fire Authority and Lewis County Fire District 6 in a joint application for an Assistance to Firefighter Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Soap Lake Fire in Grant County fully contained after burning over 2,000 acres

Firefighters say a fire that burned over 2,000 acres in Grant County is now 100 percent contained Thursday morning. The Soap Lake Fire burned 2,063 acres and destroyed one small outbuilding, according to an update from Washington State Patrol Trooper Jeff Sevigney. No people were harmed and no homes were affected from this fire.

Island Wins Funding For First Fdny Squad Company Of Its Own

Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson agreed to set aside $3.1 million in the city's fiscal 2019 budget, at the urging of Councilmen Joe Borelli (R-South Shore), Minority Leader Steve Matteo (R-Mid Island), and Borough President James Oddo for the new company.

Squad company members are trained at expert levels to respond to hazardous material and special rescue operations.

The money will fund the technical training for a five-person specialized company and about 30 new squad members, a brand new pumper-rescue truck, and auxiliary equipment needed to upgrade an existing Staten Island engine company into a specialized squad company.

Volunteer Firefighter Accused of Driving Fire Truck while Drunk Resigns

Officers say he was responding to a 911 call when police on scene said he smelled like alcohol and was slurring his speech. Feaster's blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.

There are no rules preventing firefighters from drinking before the start of their shift. The Iowa Firefighter's Association says both volunteer and paid firefighters are encouraged to not respond to a call if they are impaired for feel they won't be able to perform their duties.

Moped driver taken to hospital after crashing into fire truck on South Side

 

The fire truck was pulling into a parking lot and the moped driver hit the front of the truck just before crashing into a utility pole.

The driver was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center for his injuries which officials say don't appear to be life-threatening.
