FDNY Fire Apparatus Crashes into Car Carrying Family

The FDNY vehicle collided with the other vehicle near the intersection of East 180th Street and Mapes Avenue in West Farms early Sunday, just after midnight, police said.

The car’s occupants — two males, ages 39 and 13, and three females, ages 38, 14 and 8 — were taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including broken bones, police and sources told The Post.

Authorities make arrest in WSU fraternity arson investigation

On Sunday at 5:15 a.m., Pullman Fire responded to a fire at 845 NE C Street, the Theta Chi Fraternity on WSU's campus. Firefighters extinguished the fire, but the back deck, which was made of treated wood, was destroyed. Fire investigators discovered several attempted ignition points around the fraternity house.

Smoke warnings go out over 'controlled burns' in Eastern Washington

Fire smoke may soon cause problems east of the Cascades but this time it's on purpose. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will be starting controlled burns on department land in five Eastern Washington counties to reduce the risk of wildfires next summer and enhance wildlife habitat. The burns will take place later this month or in early October.

Whatcom house fire could have been much worse if neighbor hadn't heard smoke detector

Fire investigators are still determining what started a fire in a utility room that caused an estimated $10,000 in damage to a Deming home Sunday afternoon. Whatcom County Fire District 1 received a report of the structure fire at 4838 Deming Road Sunday afternoon after a neighbor reported hearing a smoke alarm and seeing smoke from vents on the roof of the house, District 1 Chief Mel Blankers said.
