Grant County Fire District 3 in Quincy was recently awarded about $316,000 in FEMA SAFER grants. The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) was created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities.

The Skagit County commissioners approved Tuesday a plan on how to distribute emergency medical services levy money to the four cities that will provide ambulance services. Under the agreement, Anacortes, Burlington, Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley will each receive between about $1.1 million and $1.5 million annually to provide ambulance services.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded Fire District 7 a $758,000 Assistance to Firefighters grant. The money will be used to purchase new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs) for firefighters, according to a statement from District 7. There are three different parts to an SCBA; air bottle, pack, and a mask.
