Idaho Falls Firefighters Celebrate Arrival of Fire Apparatus

“We put it in neutral and we physically all push it into its bay for its first assignment,” fire chief Dave Hanneman tells EastIdahoNews.com.  

Hanneman says this truck has been a long time coming and that the department hasn’t replaced an engine in six years. The truck took about 9-12 months to order and assemble and it cost nearly $500,000. “The one that it’s replacing is about 30 years old and we’re excited to get the new the technology that comes with the truck,” Hanneman says. “It’s a very long-term investment for us and we hope to get a good 25 years out of this engine. Our crews are training on it now and they’re excited about it.”

Firefighters extinguish Kelso fire

A fire at 713 South Seventh Ave. in Kelso was put out in five minutes by Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue and Longview Fire shortly after 10:30 Monday morning. Cowlitz 2 Lte. Jason Sanders said the fire was relatively contained to the house's back bedroom and no one was injured. The bedroom was destroyed, though Sanders said the rest of the house was likely livable in spite of some smoke and heat damage.

Fire department dedicates truck to fallen Afghan war vet

The North Patchogue Fire Department dedicated a fire truck to Lieutenant Michael Murphy. Murphy was a North Patchogue resident and a Medal of Honor recipient. He was killed in the line of duty in 2005. Members of the department say it is an honor to commemorate a man who served our country.

Kansas Firefighter Crashes Fire Truck Into Tree

According to a Facebook post by Columbus Fire Rescue, the department was responding to a fire call shortly after 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning when a "medical emergency" caused the driver to pass out and hit a tree.

KSNF reports the driver was taken to a Joplin, Mo. hospital for treatment.

Driver pinned under fire truck in SW Freeway wreck

The suspected drunk driver hit another vehicle, causing it to slam into the back of a fire truck that was driving on the freeway. The second driver was pinned underneath the fire truck. He was injured and taken to Ben Taub Hospital. He is expected to survive. Authorities say the driver who caused the wreck had an odor of alcohol. He is being processed on suspicion of DWI.
