20-Foot Deep Sinkhole Discovered In Terre Haute Intersection After Fire Truck Drives Over It

WTHI reports the 20-feet deep sinkhole opened Wednesday afternoon, and it was first discovered when a fire truck drove through the intersection and hit the hole.

There were large cracks in the pavement running from the sinkhole on Ohio Street toward U.S. 41.

The Terre Haute Fire Department says everyone on the fire truck is safe, but the sinkhole damaged the truck. It is now out of service for inspection.

South Wenatchee fire destroys motor home, displaces tenant

At approximately 1:46 p.m. on Wednesday, emergency responders were called to the scene of a fire in the 1700 block of Judkins Street in South Wenatchee. Crews from Chelan County Fire District 1 and Douglas County Fire District 2 responded and discovered the blaze burning in dry vegetation on two neighborhood parcels.

1 dead, 6 hospitalized as fire burns garage in South Everett

One person died and six others were hospitalized following a garage fire in south Everett early Thursday morning. Neighbors called 911 around 12:45 a.m. to report a fire in a garage at a townhome in the 300 block of 127th St. SE. Firefighters arrived to find a 29-year-old man in the garage who had not survived, according to Leslie Hynes with South Snohomish County Fire and Rescue.

Skagit County fire districts welcome new recruits

Skagit County fire districts 4 and 9 have added 11 new volunteer firefighters. Ten were sworn in Sunday during the districts’ biennial badge pinning ceremony, while the 11th missed the ceremony because of a work commitment. The group includes a Bellingham firefighter-paramedic and a former Mount Erie firefighter with 30 years experience.

Fire guts 3-story Seattle townhome under construction

Firefighters were busy trying to douse a blaze at a three-story townhome under construction in Wallingford. Neighbors called in the fire in the 4200 block of Winslow Place N. just after 5 a.m. Carter Costello was just coming down off Queen Anne Hill when he spotted the massive flames: "We looked over the edge of the bridge and saw this huge, billowing red cloud -- the fire was huge, it was insane," he said.
