Spokane Fire Department increases response size near homeless shelter after threats, vandalism

The Spokane Fire Department is changing how it answers calls after threats against on-duty firefighters going to help near a downtown homeless shelter. “We were looking at trying to get that into a running state, but it (the museum) wasn’t the place or the facility to try to do any mechanical fixing. We decided we were going to trailer it … to bring it back to the fire station,” said Fire Chief Dale Feser.

Houston Fire Department Will Purchase Ballistic Vests

Houston joins an expanding list of fire departments — Boston, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh among them — that have purchased the vests.

“It is a new reality that is contrary to how we’ve always viewed this honorable profession, but protective clothing must be compatible with the environment we work in,” Peña, who oversees some 4,000 firefighters, said in a statement Wednesday.
