Canadian firefighter dies after being struck by ventilation shaft

A firefighter died Tuesday after being struck by a ventilation shaft while battling a blaze. CBC reported that 10-year veteran Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac volunteer firefighter Carmel Moreault, 54, was battling a blaze at a cardboard box plant when the water-filled ventilation shaft fell on him. Moreault was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

Bellevue Appoints New Fire Chief

City Manager Brad Miyake announced the appointment of Jerome “Jay” Hagen as chief of the Bellevue Fire Department. Hagen, who has more than 33 years of fire service experience, joins the City of Bellevue from the Seattle Fire Department where he is currently a deputy chief in the Operations Division.

Asotin County restarts fire station bidding

Asotin County fire officials are taking a new approach to converting a church into a fire station after the first round of construction bids came in much higher than expected. The lowest bid came in $1.1 million higher than the fire district's budget for the project. At a special meeting Wednesday, fire district commissioners voted in favor of dividing the $3.
