Firefighter airlifted to hospital as Miriam Fire near White Pass rages uncontained

A firefighter was injured Friday while fighting the 700-acre Miriam Fire burning near White Pass. Fire management officials reported that the injured firefighter was airlifted to a local hospital, but further details and his status were unknown Friday evening. The lightning-sparked fire nearly tripled in size Wednesday and Thursday and is zero percent contained.

Chehalis Fire Department Building Evacuated Due To Asbestos

The Chehalis Fire Department’s station was evacuated Friday and remains vacated after asbestos was found while workers removed floor tiles as part of an ongoing renovation process. Per state Department of Labor and Industries Regulations, the fire department cannot use the station until it’s deemed clean by a licensed asbestos abatement contractor.

Foundation helps put AEDs in fire trucks

Lauren Henry, executive director of the Wayne Hospital Foundation, said the Foundation is able to provide the AEDs at a reduced cost to non-profit agencies through their partnership with Midmark and Spirit Medical Transport. Greenville Rotary also provides funds for the program. The Foundation and its partners pay for two-thirds of the cost and the receiving non-profit pays the other third. Spirit Medical then offers the AED training at no cost to the recipients.

Not only do the non-profits, like Liberty Township Fire, receive the AEDs, the Foundation provides a maintenance program to help replace batteries and pads at a much reduced cost.

Menlo Park FD's Thermal Imaging Drones Flying to Fire Zone

The fire department, working with Alameda County Sheriff's Department, has plans to fly Public Safety Drones over the city of Redding over the weekend to officially document parts of the 125,000 acres, an area larger than the city of San Jose, burned so far by the Carr Fire. 

Carr Fire became the sixth most destructive fire in recorded California history after it destroyed over 1,000 homes and hundreds of other structures in Northern California. 

The Menlo Park Fire Department was one of the first fire departments to adopt drone technology back in 2014. It also used the drones to document the deadly October 2017 Tubbs Fire.

Honolulu Fire Department Moves Forward In Construction Of New Hauula Fire Station

The new Hauula fire station will be about 9,200 square feet, and will have two apparatus bays housing an engine and a tanker, according to officials.

The structure will house 18 firefighters and feature energy-efficient designs and gender-neutral living areas. The new station will replace the town's current and aging fire station that's more than 50 years old.

Construction on the fire station is expected to be complete by June of 2019.
