Spokane Valley: Slash fire causes explosion, sparks larger fire near East Valley High School

Homeowners near East Valley High School had an early wake-up call Saturday morning, when they heard a loud noise around 9:45 a.m. Homes in the area started to shake. "To move a house and shake everything from a percussion from an explosion like that is pretty large," neighbor James Beamish told KHQ.

Two teens arrested in arson at Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club

Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with an arson last week that caused extensive damage to the Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club, police said. The two suspects, a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old, were identified based on a tip from a neighbor. Both have been booked into the Denny Juvenile Justice Center, a Lake Stevens police spokesman said.

No Charges in Fatal Crash Involving D.C. Fire Truck

A D.C. firefighter will not be charged in a violent crash that killed a man and injured two other people.  

The truck was impounded as evidence, but the department received a letter saying it can have the truck back.

Holmen Area Fire Department considering new fire truck

The total cost of the truck will be $861,000. Each of the municipalities are expected to pay a third of the total cost by July 10th. The board's president said it is important to buy the truck now because the price will increase to more than $1 million in the future. Steve Johnson, president of the Holmen Fire Board, said the truck could be delivered by the end of July. After three days of training, it could be in service at the beginning of August.

'Phipps Strong': New Fire Truck Honors Injured SAFD Firefighter Brad Phipps

Phipps spent more than 20 years with the department’s Station 121, moving up in the ranks before joining the San Antonio Fire Department.

Rodriguez said when the department finally got the approval to purchase three brand new fire engines, it was determined that Station 121’s truck would receive a special addition to honor Phipps.

“He means a lot to our organization. He’s coached and mentored a lot of firefighters and with engine 121, we put a picture of a firefighter on the back of the truck with ‘Phipps Strong,’” Rodriguez said.

Bexar County ESD firefighter Grace Proston, is not only honored to have the brand new trucks but also to be a part of the tribute for her friend, Phipps.
