A longtime fire chief in West Hazleton will lead the department on an interim basis until council permanently fills the position, borough officials said. Council appointed Robert Ward as borough fire department chief after Shawn Evans resigned as chief of both the fire department and fire company, according to several borough officials.

PHOTO - A team of paramedics responding to a medical call in Yelm got an unexpected surprise. While loading a patient into the back of the ambulance on Monday, the patient's goats tried following their guardian. A paramedic snapped a picture of the goats and emailed it to the battalion chiefs at the Lacey Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to a house fire Tuesday evening in the 1700 block of E. Rich. When fire crews arrived they saw smoke and flames coming from the home. They also learned one person was inside the home at the time. They were able to safely get the man out of the home. Firefighters on scene say the home was destroyed.
