Poulsbo fire engine damaged by road spike, others found in North Kitsap

A Poulsbo Fire Department engine was briefly taken out of service Thursday after a road spike on Highway 305 punctured its tire, and at least one other report circulated on social media this week of spikes being found in North Kitsap roads. The department believes the engine rolled over the spike while traveling on the highway somewhere in the vicinity of George Road.

Fire Squad Improves Response Times In Northeastern National City

Staffed by six fire captains and firefighters/paramedics who work rotating 24-hour shifts in pairs, Squad 33 uses a custom Ford F-550 pickup equipped with a 150-gallon water tank and advanced medical equipment.

With one fire captain and one firefighter/paramedic on each shift, the set-up enables the captain to assess the scope of the emergency and request additional resources if needed.

Most of the calls in the area that the department fields — about 80 percent of them — are related to medical issues, said Frank Parra, the city’s emergency services director.

Portland Fire Engine Responding To Fire Involved In Crash

The four firefighters in the truck were unharmed. The condition of the car driver was unavailable.

The front end of the car was heavily damaged. There was little visible damage to the fire truck.
