Memorial service held for beloved Lacey firefighter

Dozens of firefighters and community members packed Marcus Pavilion at Saint Martin's University on Sunday to pay their respects to a Lacey firefighter who died last month. Crystal Murphy,40, was a firefighter for Lacey Fire Disctrict 3. A long row of first responders saluted as a vehicle carrying Murphy's fire helmet and uniform arrived at the memorial.

Woman gives CPR to roommate following guidance from Spokane Fire Department

The Spokane Fire Department said a woman with no medical experience helped save her roommate after receiving CPR guidance from a communications specialist over the phone early Saturday morning. SFD Chief Brian Schaeffer posted on Facebook Sunday morning to retell the experience. Schaeffer said the department got a phone call from a woman who found her roommate not breathing on the floor of their living room.

Yakima City Council to consider plan to add firefighters

To help ease overtime costs, the Yakima Fire Department hopes to hire and begin training four new firefighters as early as next month. “When we have people out with the flu or a strained back or other injuries on any given day — that reduces our capacity,” said Yakima Fire Chief Bob Stewart. “What happens is we have to go into our overtime funding to fill those vacant positions.

Ohio Fire Department Gets Bullet Proof Vests

Fire Captain Andy Kaschalk said the department received the high-strength, light-weight vests at the end of December after receiving a state grant to buy them in May.

Fire station #5 to close due to possible mold and asbestos concerns

Fire station five, which is located on Bartlett was built in the early 1950’s and is expected to close for several months.

In the meantime, fire station number six, which is located on Maher Avenue will be taking the load off the fire station as well as its employees and fire stations.
