Man injured in Federal Way roof collapse

South King Fire and Rescue says a man was seriously injured after the roof of the Federal Way home he was demolishing collapsed. The News Tribune reports that firefighters were dispatched to the home on 18th Avenue South about 7:50 p.m. Sunday. Battalion Chief Ryan Herrera says they found the man, who is in his late 50s or early 60s, on the ground with "fairly significant" head trauma.

Motor home burns near Sequim

A motor home burned at the Olympic Paradise RV Park near Sequim on Saturday, Clallam County Fire District No. 3 officials said. No one was injured in the blaze at 137 Pierson Road. The owner and his dog were visiting friends at the time of the fire, District 3 Assistant Chief Dan Orr said. “The first arriving crew stated the motor home was fully involved,” Orr said in a news release.

Covington: Two dogs died in house fire they started, officials say; homeowner is a firefighter

Saturday, two dogs died in a house fire that fire officials say the dogs started when they accidentally turned on the stove top. Q13 News spoke to the homeowner. He did not want us to say his name, but he let us into his home to show us the destruction. Destruction, the home owner is very familiar seeing himself; he’s been a firefighter for the last 17 years.

New Sunnyside fire chief looking forward to return to state

The new Sunnyside Fire Department chief is looking forward to serving the community, returning to Central Washington. Kenny B. Anderson, 48, grew up in the region. He lived in Ellensburg for a time and began his career in Pasco. He reports for duty as the new fire chief on June 1. Anderson is looking forward to being closer to family, especially his father.

Pickups, not fire engines: Fargo Fire Department to try pilot...

Mayor Tim Mahoney is proposing the potentially cost-saving measure after learning about trends in other cities at a recent conference.

"Is there a way of doing some of our runs with a little less manpower, in a sense, and the manpower being the fire trucks?" he said in a recent interview, sitting alongside Fire Chief Steve Dirksen.

Mahoney has tasked Dirksen with creating a pilot program, to be run out of the downtown station, to see whether using pickups can make the department more efficient.

This move comes after a record number of fire department calls last year. Fargo firefighters had 10,711 calls for service in 2017, rising steadily from 6,262 just five years earlier.

The bulk of the 2017 calls — more than 6,400 — were emergency medical calls in which the firefighters' skills, not necessarily a fire engine, were needed.
