Whenever a fire breaks out in a home within the northern portion of this village, the affected residents can be assured a rescue crew is on the way.
Being that the north end of Meyers Lake falls within Plain Township has led to concern among township officials because nearly 200 village property owners are not paying a fire-protection property tax.

A house fire in Kirkland spread to two other nearby homes overnight, emergency officials said.
Crews responded to the scene, a home on Northeast 110th Street near 104th Avenue, at around 9 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of smoke and flames there.
When firefighters arrived, the blaze had jumped to two other nearby houses, and a second alarm was sounded.

Kennewick firefighters battled a short blaze at an automotive shop on Third Avenue.
The fire started in a vehicle at Les's A-1 Automotive and Repair at 620 East Third at 1:30 p.m.
Flames spread to the building. Kennewick firefighters brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes, and were checking to see if it spread to the attic.
