Firefighters Respond to Number One Canyon Grass Fire

A report of a grass fire near homes in Number One Canyon drew a response from Chelan, Douglas County and DNR. Chelan County Fire District One Battalion Chief Cary Neu said it appeared the property owner’s debris pile burn from a few days earlier had heated up in the sun and wind and spread to the hillside.

Fairfield Township (OH) Approves New Fire Station

The fire station is needed, trustees say, because the conditions at the current Tylersville Road facility, known as Station 211, are cramped. The 3,200-square-foot station has undersized offices, co-ed sleeping quarters, storage bins in the hallway, an inadequate driveway and a pair of undersized vehicle bays, officials said. The township has to order undersized fire engines and ambulances — which cost more — to fit them in the current station.

The proposed fire station will incorporate three areas: an administration area, a living area and an operations area. The operations area will include four apparatus bays. Construction by Cincinnati United Contractors will begin in July and wrap up in March 2019.

Despite the unanimous vote, Trustee Joe McAbee said his “yes” vote was “with objection” as he didn’t feel the township needed a $4 million, 15,000-square-foot station with today’s staffing levels. He also disagreed with sleeping quarters for 10 staffers and a brick facade.

Bristol (UK) Fire Apparatus Blocked by Parked Cars

The crew from Southmead fire station were called to an incident of arson by the police at just after 3am on the morning of Bank Holiday Monday, May 7, but they had to reach the fire on foot, because the fire engine could not fit through the streets.

The incident happened in the Bishopston area of the city, but thankfully was only a minor fire, and no one needed rescuing or was injured.

Police officers called Avon Fire and Rescue Service to the scene of a fire where someone had piled up rubbish and set it on fire.
