Report: Feds warn of fire dangers a year after Atlanta's I-85 bridge collapse

Federal investigators have concluded the Georgia Department of Transportation is partly to blame for the fire that destroyed part of I-85 in Atlanta and crippled the region’s traffic for weeks. Wednesday, the National Transportation Safety Board released a report that found the department’s decision to stockpile construction materials under I-85 contributed to the inferno that destroyed a section of the highway in Buckhead.

Cowlitz County: One-of-a-kind hero gets first-of-its-kind award after helping to save kids

Heroes do tend to be the quiet type: they usually don't like talking about themselves. Ryan LaFave is no exception. The volunteer firefighter with Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue in Kelso would much rather talk "Dukes of Hazard" than how he helped save four neighborhood kids from their burning house. But last summer that's just what the 22-year-old with Down syndrome did.

Fire Chief: Clallam County Fire District 3 seeks to improve communications with residents

Clallam County Fire District 3 is developing a long-range financial plan. The first steps are to clearly identify and evaluate all sources of revenue and forecast future service demands. Early in this process, we learned that many in our community did not know how fire and emergency medical services are funded, how many services the fire district provides, and just how busy our crews are.
