Spokane fire damages South Hill house converted into apartments

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish an apartment fire Friday evening in the 1200 block of W. 6th Ave. It happened around 6:15 p.m. Heavy fire was showing from the ground floor apartment unit when fire crews arrived on scene. The fire was threatening the upper level living spaces in the old South Hill home that had been converted into apartments.

East Jefferson Fire Rescue names Jim Walkowski as new fire chief

East Jefferson Fire Rescue (EJFR) has hired Jim Walkowski, a 32-year veteran of the fire service to be the new fire chief. Walkowski was most recently assistant chief at Spokane County Fire District 9, which is comprised of nine fire stations and 170 career and volunteer personnel within a 122-square-mile service area, according to an EJFR press release.

South, Central Whidbey fire districts increase rope rescue aid to each other

In an unfortunate scenario requiring a rope rescue, South Whidbey rescue teams might be found responding to instances in Central Whidbey and visa versa. South Whidbey Fire/EMS recently amended an agreement with Central Whidbey that increases rope rescue aid between the two districts. South Whidbey crews will now be automatically dispatched to situations requiring a rope rescue in Central Whidbey, and the crews up north will do the same.

Waynesboro (MS) Fire Department Gets New Pumper Fire Apparatus

"With every truck we speck out, we’re enhancing our equipment. We find out what we don’t like about the current truck and we add to it; we make it better," says Eric Scott Bunch, Waynesboro's assistant fire chief.  

Firefighters say they're excited to be able start using this new truck.

Three New Roanoke (VA) Fire Stations to be Constructed

The demolition and reconstruction is part of a multi-year plan to replace three outdated fire stations. Hoback approached the residents at their neighborhood meeting at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church to ask them for their input on the design of the fire station.

 

Hoback has led the construction of three fire stations already in his decade as chief. He said he’s using the same approach this time around: community involvement. He wants representatives from the neighborhoods to provide input to architects so the community can have a fire station that feels integrated with the rest of the neighborhood.
