Car collision with gas meter causes Spokane Valley house fire

A Spokane Valley home caught fire around 8 p.m. Wednesday night after a driver crashed into a gas meter, causing the home to catch fire. A male driver crashed into the home at the intersection of 6th and Fox, damaging the gas meter and igniting the escaping natural gas. When Spokane Valley Fire Department crews arrived on scene, both the home and vehicle were on fire.

$7.2 Million Worth of Fire Trucks

A $7.2 million photo was taken Sept. 30 in the county administration parking lot. It's a group shot of the 18 new fire trucks now in station houses across Lancaster County. "It's an awesome thing to stand there and see all that apparatus side by side like that," said Darren Player, Lancaster County Fire Rescue director.
Purchased through a $7.2 million bond package in 2015, the new fire trucks replace about one third of the fleet at the county’s 18 volunteer stations and one truck at the Lancaster Fire Department. The bonds are issued in seven-year cycles, so that each vehicle is replaced about every 21 years.

Oil trains at forefront of Spokane City Council race

The political divide fueling the race for south Spokane’s City Council seat can be seen in the railroad tracks running through downtown. Breean Beggs, a private practice attorney appointed to the panel in 2016 after a failed run for Spokane County prosecutor two years prior, is being challenged by first-time candidate Andy Dunau.
