9 Investigates: Fire rescue vehicles recalled and still on the road

The truck’s cab was part of a nationwide recall because the water pumps could catch on fire. Firefighters contacted us when they said they were concerned for their safety because other rescue trucks that were also under recall were still on the road.

Child, 3 Adults Hospitalized After North Lauderdale Fire Rescue Truck Crashes

A man, who identified himself as a AAA employee, told Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden that he was towing a vehicle down State Road 7 and saw the firetruck in the distance through his rear-view mirror.

He said he merged into the right lane to allow the firetruck to pass, but his vehicle was struck from behind by the firetruck.

He thought it gave him credibility and earned him the respect of peers. Now he knows his dirty gear harbored the toxins and carcinogens that haunt the scene of a fire -- and that they might well revisit him in the future as cancer.
