Protective equipment and safety device manufacturer Scott Safety is preparing to launch its $12.5 million partnership with California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). The company is readying its support of the nation’s third-largest firefighting organization and its 5,600 full-time firefighters through equipment production and in-service training.

“We’re looking forward to equipping CAL FIRE with the tools they need for success,” said Trent Smith, global director of sales, Scott Safety, which was recently awarded the new statewide contract for self-contained breathing apparatus. “Our focus now is on delivering the highest level of quality equipment, training and customer service, offering CAL FIRE peace of mind and comfort in getting the job done.”

Under this new partnership, CAL FIRE will have easy and quick access to Scott Safety’s continued innovation through Scott Safety’s distribution partner, ALLSTAR Fire Equipment, headquartered in Arcadia, California.

“The members of CAL FIRE carry out a critical mission of protecting people and property throughout the state of California,” said Scott Safety President Mike Ryan. “Scott Safety is ready to begin supporting this mission with world-class support and durable, cutting-edge protection.”

Dawson (TX) VFD Uses Grant to Update Fire Apparatus Fleet

Dawson VFD uses grant to update fleet Dawson Volunteer Fire Department received a $100,00 grant from the Texas A&M Forest Service Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program, enabling the department to expand their fleet's ability to be more aggressive when responding to a wildland fire.
"The department replaced an 11-year-old truck with a 2017 Ford F-550 that has a 400-gallon water tank, foam capability, remote control front bumper turret and nozzles on the front and back bumpers and sides of the truck," said Darryl Rogers, Fire Chief of Dawson Volunteer Fire Department. "We are glad to have a dependable truck that gives us the option to respond and extinguish a grass fire with fewer personnel."

"The primary purpose of the truck will be wildland firefighting but can also be used for most any type of fire and medical response or traffic control," said Rogers. "The foam capability is ideal for the grass fires because the foam gives better suppression rate, allowing a firefighter to put out a fire using less water."

Woodway (TX) Raising Money to Buy New Fire Apparatus

The Woodway Public Safety Department is hoping you can help them raise enough money to buy a new fire truck. They held the 44th annual barbecue fundraiser at Woodway Elementary School Saturday. The city manager and public safety director Yost Zakhary said their goal is to raise $45,000 within the next three years.
The truck costs about $500,000, but the director said city council will pay for 80 percent of it.

"It's all about service. What we do is service the community. We try to get 20 to 25 years out of each equipment, and we want to pay cash for it. When we get the truck, hopefully in two years, it'll be paid for in cash," Zakhary said.
