Truck fire makes for smoky mess on I-405 near Renton

A semi truck caught fire in the southbound lanes of I-405 Monday afternoon, making for a smoky mess during the initial part of the evening commute. Flames were seen spewing out the top of the truck as it sat just south of the NE 44th Street on ramp just before 3 p.m. Once firefighters got on the scene and started dousing the flames, smoke briefly poured over both sides of the freeway.

Wilkes-Barre (PA) Welcomes New Fire Apparatus

It’ll take about three weeks for the firefighters to get trained on the new pumper showcased Monday at the East Ross Street station
The mini-pumper will be able to maneuver through the narrow streets and alleys in the city, especially in the Heights and Rolling Mill Hill sections, the mayor said.

The 2017 KME Ford F-550 super duty truck has a turbo diesel, 6-wheel drive and pumping capacity of 1,000 gallons of water per minute. It was purchased at a cost of $240,080 with block grant funding obtained through the Office of Community Development. With the trade in of the old pumper, the department was able to buy a 5-year, bumper-to-bumper warranty for the apparatus, Delaney said.

Federal Funding for Redlands (CA) Fire Department for Fire Equipment

Today, Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-San Bernardino), announced that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded $437,487 to the Redlands Fire Department as part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The department will use the funds to purchase 64 new Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBA), enough to outfit the entire department and replace existing SCBA equipment that is over 15 years old. The funding will also cover training costs so that the department can repair and maintain the equipment internally.
"I am glad to announce that the Redlands Fire Department will receive these funds, and am glad that they'll be able to make much needed upgrades to critical safety equipment," said Rep. Aguilar. He continued, "Firefighters in our community put themselves in harm's way in the service of others, and they deserve access to the best equipment. Redlands Fire has sent representatives to both of my last two grants training workshops, so this is a department that is serious about using federal resources to help provide services for our local community."
