Clallam Fire District 3 to consider grant for more firefighters

Clallam County Fire District No. 3’s call volume has consistently increased by 6 percent every year for the past two decades, Assistant Chief Dan Orr said. A recent service delivery study described the increase as “the single most significant challenge we face.” However, a federal grant could offer a “proactive” solution to the call volume by allowing the district to hire up to six more firefighters, Orr said.

Help streams in to fight Norse Peak Fire with a little assist from the weather

The change in the weather is helping in the battle against the wild fires in our state, but not by much. The Norse Peak fire has consumed more than 45,000 acres northeast of Mount. Rainier, and the newer Sawmill Creek Fire has burned just under 1,000 acres northeast of Greenwater. A new fire camp has sprung up at the Enumclaw fairgrounds to deal with the Sawmill Creek Fire while cabin owners near Crystal Mountain are dealing with an urgent evacuation from the Norse Peak Fire.

Three taken to hospital following two-vehicle wreck and rescue at Lake Crescent

Three people were taken to Olympic Medical Center after a head-on wreck on U.S. Highway 101 at Lake Crescent late Wednesday, Clallam County Fire District No. 2 officials said. A Chevrolet pickup was traveling eastbound when it collided with a westbound 2004 Ford Taurus near Barnes Point shortly after 10 p.

Chetco Bar Fire Firefighters Have Fire Equipment Stolen

In Southern Oregon, firefighters are still battling the raging Chetco Bar Fire, currently at 176,000 acres with 5% containment. To make matters more difficult, thousands of dollars of equipment were stolen from one of the fire crews. The theft took place over the weekend.
Two fire trucks from Lane County Fire Defense were ransacked – losing equipment such as an oxygen tank, a firefighter’s bag, a flat-headed axe and a firefighter jacket.

Fortunately, some of that equipment was found dumped nearby, enough to allow the crews to make it out to the fire line.

Petersburg (VA) Receives New Fire Apparatus

After several years of setbacks stemming from financial difficulties, the Petersburg Fire Department received one of three new trucks on Thursday.
The new 2017 KME Kovatch truck was sitting outside of the Walnut Hill station, beside the outdated 1988 model it was replacing. The truck is a basic rescue pumper truck, with a water pump and hose on it.

Division Chief Richard Lemocks talked about the process behind acquiring a new fire truck.
