Tacoma home erupts in flames with 93-year-old woman inside

Minne McClarron was suddenly awakened early Tuesday morning by a loud explosion and flames burning just feet from her Tacoma home. “By the time I got to my granddaughter’s bedroom, the whole house was glowing,” McClarron told KIRO 7 Wednesday. The 93-year old McClarron, who has owned her home on the corner of South 52nd and Fawcett Avenue since 1969, said the fire that scorched her front yard was not the first time homes near Stewart Middle School have apparently been targeted by a firebug.

Jolly Mountain firefighters: 'Protecting homes can become an obsession'

In the Morgan Creek neighborhood, about 10 miles north of Roslyn, firefighters work around the clock to protect 33 homes. "You can see the fire is right in here," said firefighter Kale Casey as he walked through the neighborhood. "It's trying to chunk its way down this road, and it's definitely right up there," he said pointing uphill into the brush.

Injured Salisbury (MD) Firefighter in Good Spirits After Accident with Fire Apparatus

Though the Salisbury firefighter injured this weekend remains in good spirits after being struck by a city firetruck over the weekend, officials said he may be looking at additional surgeries on his road to recovery.
Fire Chief Richard Hoppes said the firefighter was already in his second surgery as the accident was being addressed during the city's Tuesday morning public safety briefing and could be looking at undergoing another procedure Wednesday. At this time, officials have not identified the firefighters involved in the accident.
