911 becomes the go-to help line for ‘high utilizers.’ Who’s reaching out to help them? Pittsburgh firefighters

A 45-year-old woman with anxiety called 911 28 times with the exact same narrative. A 60-year-old man with rib pain but without a known medical diagnosis made a “big block of calls” for the same issue repeatedly, as did a woman with repeated falls stemming from shortness of breath. These are just two of the summaries of cases presented at the June 23 meeting of Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire High Utilizers Program team.

Rhode Island man meets firefighters who saved his life 16 years ago

VIDEO: Gary Benitez was 14 years old when he was nearly killed by a falling tree. The Johnston native tells 12 News the rotted tree fell right on top of him while he was playing Wiffle ball with friends. The teenager was knocked unconscious, and woke up two days later in the hospital. “I thought it was the same day, so I woke up in a panic,” Benitez said.

$60k reward offered for information on suspects in arson incidents at Atlanta Police Department facilities

VIDEO: Atlanta police are increasing the reward for information following a string of attacks they allege were targeted toward the department and those involved in the development of the future Atlanta Public Safety Training Facility. On Tuesday, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said they have increased the total reward to $60,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of those involved in this series of arson attacks in Atlanta.

Domestic disturbance call leads to 3-alarm Bellevue apartment fire; 35 units impacted

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Firefighters and police in Bellevue said a domestic disturbance resulted in a large apartment fire Tuesday afternoon. The American Red Cross said 35 units were impacted by the fire and that its Disaster Action Team was assisting residents who were displaced. Series of fires sweeps across Puget Sound fueled by dry, hot weather

PHOTOS: The hot and dry weather in Washington is leading to fires lighting up across the Puget Sound region. Tuesday afternoon, a brush fire was reported in Jefferson County near Highway 19. Six homes were told to evacuate as first responders struggled to form a perimeter due to high winds. Additionally, Northbound I-5 through Marysville was completely blocked as crews worked to put out a series of brush fires along the side of the freeway between milepost 203 and 206.
