Indiana police and fire prank war raises money

On Saturday, the people coming up to Jeffersonville's firefighters at the Save the Fieldhouse Craft Bazaar weren't grimly bringing up the opioid crisis or devastating fires. Instead, they were smiling and laughing with the city employees. The cause of their joy, said fire Sgt. Justin Ames, was a lighthearted prank war between Jeffersonville's fire and police departments that started the Tuesday before and soon became a local sensation.

Yakima County Firefighters in the lower valley receive new safety upgrade

A Yakima County Fire District that serves the lower valley is getting a safety upgrade. Fire District 5 will start using a new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus in November to help firefighters safely breathe in the midst of smoke and heat of fires. The district was able to upgrade equipment that was soon to become obsolete, with grant money that was awarded to them by FEMA Assistance to Firefighters, according to a news release.

Carver Fire Department (MA) Focuses on Fire Apparatus Driver Training

Fire Safety Officer Captain Bob Telless developed the driving course for both driving in town as well as responding to calls on Route 44.

 

"The firefighters get practice in driving," he said. "The main focus is on highway response."

 

The safety officer's drill typically takes place in October. Telless has been leading the training since 2008 and believes it's a valuable lesson for all the new firefighters and is a refresher course for the others. He reviews hazards and expectations.
