Camp Point (IL) Fire District Gets $1.1M Grant

Camp Point Fire Protection District is among 10 fire departments across the state set to receive more than $1.1 million in federal funding for firefighter resources. Camp Point Fire will receive $5,240 of the Department of Homeland Security funds awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
The program provides first-responder organizations with the ability to obtain emergency-response equipment, personal protection equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles and training in an effort to strengthen the nation's overall level of preparedness.

"Firefighters in communities throughout Illinois risk their lives and run toward danger when others run away. We owe it to them to make sure they have the best equipment and training," said U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, who worked with U.S. Senator Dick Durbin to secure the funding.

Critical Part of Firefighting Operations Warehoused In Colorado

It is the part of the firefight that most people don’t see but it’s critical. It’s the team behind the scenes, organizing and inspecting the tools fire fighters need on the front lines.
Sitting in an enormous warehouse in the Federal Center in Lakewood is what some with the Forest Service refer to as the “Home Depot” of firefighting equipment.

There are 15 warehouses or what are referred to as “caches” across the nation. The Colorado Cache in Lakewood normally supplies to five states in the Rocky Mountain region but fires burning in the Southwest are creating a strain on inventory.

Wythe County (VA) Secures Grant for New Ambulance

Fire and Rescue crews across the area are struggling to afford new or replacement equipment. So governing bodies, like in Wythe County, are helping to find grant funding. It's because things like ambulances are becoming way too expensive for Rescue Squads to afford.
In Wythe County, County staff secured a grant earlier this year for the Wythe County Rescue Squad to get a new ambulance.

Now, another grant is coming in to replace an ambulance at the Lead Mines Rescue Squad.

The county said the issue with financing new ambulances isn't a lack of funding or support.

New American Township (OH) Fire Station in Operation

Firefighters and emergency medical technicians with the American Township Fire Department’s Station 2 now have a new place to call home. Located at 2110 Edgewood Drive, the same site as Station 2’s predecessor, the new station is now in operation, with firefighters and equipment moved in as of Wednesday. While the original station, built in 1988, was "well-built for its time," according to American Township Fire Chief Thomas Hadding, it was time for a change.
Construction of the new facility started in July 2016, and to accommodate the transition, firefighters at Station 2 were housed behind Toys R Us and the old Gold’s Gym, 2296 Elida Road, with two trailers on site for sleeping quarters.

The $2.3 million facility offers numerous improvements from the previous facility, including a third bay with larger bay doors, equipment storage in a contained area with fresh air intake, greater separation between the apparatus bay and the kitchen and living quarters, a more secured entryway into the station with security cameras and a larger parking and turnaround area for fire trucks. Funding for the building was made possible thanks to the renewal of a 4.85 mill and a 4 mill levy.
