Getting fired at 19 years old might've been the best thing for Bob Gear's career. "They said you're getting laid off after Labor Day, yeah, no you're done, you need to go find another job. Yeah, you need to go find another job something that's gonna have a career," Gear laughed. It was 1974, Gear had grown up on the west side of Washington in a family filled with construction and logging work, who he worked for.

Today, the historic Garland neighborhood is quiet, but it was a much different story in late March. Off Hall and McFarland, a home caught ablaze and was subsequently destroyed by the flames. The Spokane Police Department (SPD) says this fire was not an accident. The home was set on fire by 36-year-old Jenny Barden.

A man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police determined a car fire in south Seattle was intentionally set. Officers arrived in the 4500 block of South Henderson Street just after 4 p.m. to assist the Seattle Fire Department in responding to a car fire. According to the Seattle Police Department, officers arrested a 42-year-old man after collecting evidence at the scene and speaking with a witness who identified a suspect seen sitting in the car before the fire.

Residents of a Thurston County community south of Yelm say they live in a cell phone desert and it is putting their lives at risk. The Clearwood Community is some eight-and-a-half miles from the nearest cell phone tower in the city of Yelm. But its reach is not far enough to provide reliable service for hundreds of residents.

Three fires broke out across Nassau County within hours of each other on Easter Sunday. Two homes and one flower shop were badly damaged by the flames. In Brookville, a two-alarm fire ripped through the upper floors of a large home on Fruitledge Road on Sunday afternoon, destroying the upper floors.
