Auditor’s Office announces increase in hourly billing rate

Beginning January 1, 2018, the Office of the Washington State Auditor will charge local governments $95 an hour for their regularly scheduled audits. The previous rate was $93 an hour.

This rate change comes in response to a cost-of-living salary increase for state employees and increased employer health care costs approved by the Legislature, as well as the feedback from our clients, who have long expressed a desire for more experienced audit staff.

Milestone for the Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC)

On July 26th the Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) attained a major milestone: reaching 2,014 designated officers worldwide.

The professional designation program was developed with a focus on helping fire and emergency service personnel excel as individuals and to bring additional value to their roles and organizations. Commission Chair Chief Reginald Freeman, CFO expressed his excitement as we celebrate our 2,000th designee to successfully be awarded their Commission on Professional Credentialing designation, and assures, “we remain just as dedicated today to the high professional standards and values as we were when we credentialed the first officer.”

Pile of tree limbs burns at Vancouver wood recycling facility

Firefighters were kept busy this morning when a pile of tree limbs caught fire at a wood recycling facility in Vancouver’s Sifton neighborhood. A deputy with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office passed by H & H Wood Recyclers, 8403 N.E. 117th Ave., just after 4 a.m. today and saw a fire on the property, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Joe Spatz said.

Spokane brush fire burning 10-15 acres near Bigelow Gulch and Bruce Rd. appears suspicious

Authorities tell us that a brush fire burning Thursday morning near Bigelow Gulch and Bruce Rd. appears suspicious because it was one of three brush fires burning at the same time in the same area. Two other, smaller brush fires were also burning near Arbor Crest winery. The exact location of the fire was in the 8200 block of N.

Chemicals spark fires at Texas plant, officials say chemical is 'noxious'

Ten Harris County deputies were exposed to a 'non-toxic irritant' after a release of pressure from multiple small containers holding chemicals at the Arkema plant in Crosby. The incident was first reported by emergency officials as two explosions. Law enforcement later began referring to the situation as containers popping, spewing black smoke, and being on fire.
