Proposition 1, which would create a Regional Fire Authority for emergency service providers in the South Beach area, will appear on the August primary ballot.
At a meeting of the Regional Fire Authority Planning Committee in Westport Tuesday, commissioners were updated on plans to publicize and promote the proposition by Captain Daryl Brown, who heads the public relations committee for the proposition.

Both directions of I-90 are back open near Vantage after a wildfire forced the closure on Sunday evening.
The Grant County Sheriff estimates the fire to be 1,000 acres, mostly sagebrush and grass. The fire started around 6 p.m. Sunday, 11 miles west of George between I-90 and the Columbia River.
Level two evacuations are underway for the Old Vantage Hwy camp area.

Ten firefighters were honored Sunday at the annual Washington State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service in Olympia.
Friends, families and colleagues from around the state gathered to honor their lives. The fallen firefighter's names were stitched onto a ceremonial ribbon and presented to each family before being hung together at the State Capitol building.

If and when the “big one” hits, Clallam County Fire District 3 Chief Ben Andrews said, Sequim and its surrounding communities will be much more prepared than they were a year ago.
A crowd of community residents who are part of CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) joined first responders — in all, about 200 — on Saturday in Sequim, in what local emergency preparedness leaders call the first-of-its-kind earthquake response training.
