A fire in the attic damaged four apartment units in Richland before it was extinguished on Monday. Richland firefighters were called at 3:38 p.m. to 1915 Hoxie Ave. after smoke was seen billowing out of the building, according to Fire Chief Tom Huntington. Flames damaged the attic and roof, and left the block of apartments structurally unsound.

Fairchild Air Force Base says groundwater that supplies nearby homes may have been contaminated by a fire-extinguishing foam that the Air Force stopped using last year after a recommendation by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Air Force officials said Monday that the foam had been used at a former firefighter training site on the eastern edge of the base since 1970.

The FBI and Neah Bay authorities are investigating the discovery of a body that was found in a burned car around noon Saturday on the Makah tribal reservation, Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict said late Monday. Benedict said the body was that of an adult. “The FBI crime team took over late Saturday afternoon,” Benedict said.
