The Short Creek Joint Fire District has been awarded $300,000 for life-saving equipment. The villages of Adena and Smithfield got the grant award after a second try.
A new ambulance, a new first responder pickup truck and three new cardiac monitors were all purchased with a $300,000 grant from the state of Ohio.
Adena and Smithfield couldn't win the grant last year and the departments couldn't convince residents who rely on their services to approve a levy for 24-hour staffing of medics, so the two departments banded together.
