Idaho Falls New Fire Station to be Finished Monday

The opening of the new fire station brings to completion a decadelong effort to restore the Idaho Falls Fire Department’s ability to provide centralized housing for staff and firefighting equipment in the downtown area.
The previous downtown station adjacent to City Hall couldn't house heavy equipment after cracks in the floor were discovered. In 2007, it was reported that larger cracks had developed in the floor, and that it could even be seen to shift under the weight of firefighting equipment. Finally, after a 2013 structural review, all the heavy equipment was removed.

Among other key pieces of equipment, the downtown station is expected to house the department’s ladder truck, which will now be located near many of the city’s tallest buildings.

Beebe (AR) Dedicates New Fire Apparatus

The Beebe Fire Department celebrated their new Ladder 2 firetruck with an Open House and "push in" ceremony Saturday, April 22nd. Beebe Fire Dept. District Chief Vaudie McAfee explained that the "push in" ceremony is a traditional even that comes from back in the era when fire pumpers were horse-driven and they were washed off after a fire and then the pumper was pushed back into the station ready for the next fire.
The new firetruck Ladder 2 is a custom-built, Cummins powered quint – which means it has five functions: pumper, tanker, fire hose, aerial device and ground ladders. It is a 2017 quint and will carry up to six firefighters and has a 77-foot aerial ladder. It was custom manufactured by Ferrara Fire Apparatus with custom features just for the City of Beebe. It has a 500-gallon water supply and can pump 1,750 gallons per minute.

Detroit police responded to the accident scene, but the firefighters claimed someone sideswiped the fire rig. Although they initially lied to police and superiors, their stories didn't line up. Eventually they confessed to causing more than $75,000 worth of damage to the vehicle.

The fire truck is now behind locked doors at the Detroit Fire Maintenance Division, considered evidence while Detroit Fire Commissioner Eric Jones tells us an investigation is underway.

In the meantime the two firefighters involved in the wreck and one firefighter who helped cover for them, are on administrative leave without pay.
