Kansas fire chief apologizes for removal of memorial stickers

The Sedgwick County Fire Chief has apologized to his staff after forcing them to remove memorial stickers from some of the department’s trucks. Fire Chief Tavis Leake sent an email to staff members on Monday in reference to the removal of “Bubba” stickers. The stickers were placed on several fire trucks in 2007 after firefighter Bryon Johnson was killed in the line of duty.

Florida fire chief warns county needs 25 new fire stations, not meeting response goals

Hillsborough County needs 25 new fire stations in the next 25 years to keep up with the thousands of people moving here each year, Fire Rescue Chief Dennis Jones told county commissioners Wednesday.The county is already failing to meet emergency response benchmarks, Jones warned, and it will only get worse as Hillsborough grapples with one of the fastest-growing populations in the country.

Spokane Valley firefighters rescue dog stuck in traffic

Spokane Valley fire crews were able to rescue a dog who got caught in traffic. Crews on Engine 7 rescued Kimber from the intersection of 16th and Evergreen where she was caught in traffic and in danger of being hit. Firefighter Jacob Parsloe coaxed Kimber into his arms and into the firetruck. Officials said she was reunited with her family about five blocks away thanks to her dog collar.

Update: Fatal Vancouver house fire was electrical, accidental

Investigators say a problem with a lamp or cellphone charger in a bedroom sparked the house fire where a Vancouver man and his pets were found dead Tuesday evening. Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said fire investigators, with the help of a police dog team from the Portland Police Bureau, determined the electrical fire was accidental.
