Portland police emergency and crisis teams have taken a suspect into custody after after a man barricaded himself inside a burning Southeast Portland home Wednesday morning. Portland police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson at a news conference just before noon said police initially responded to reports of a disturbance near Southeast 127th Avenue and Rhone Street about 10 a.

3 people hospitalized after camper explosion near Lakewood

Lakewood police are investigating after a small camper explosion and fire that sent three people to the hospital Wednesday night. It happened just before 8:30 p.m. on Fern Street Southwest, near American Lake. Officials said a woman and two men were inside the detached camper when it exploded. All three suffered burns and were taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Bremerton firefighters have new contract, will get new chief

The Bremerton Fire Department has a new union contract and will get a new chief but has yet to pop its ballooning overtime budget. The City Council passed a three-year agreement Wednesday night between the city and its firefighters' union. It includes a 2.5 percent bump in pay for 2016 that will cost about $141,000 this year, with subsequent increases of 2 percent in 2017 and between 1.

Forklift at Spokane Valley business sparks fire

Spokane Valley firefighters worked to put out a fire at a business near Trent and Barker Wednesday evening. The fire started at Vandermeer Forest Products around 5:30 p.m. Crews say a forklift that uses propane caught fire. There was an explosion that blew three doors off of a nearby building. Fortunately no one was inside the building at the time and no injuries were reported.
