New Bellevue firefighter inspiring, educating others after severe stroke

There are some traits we expect all firefighters have. Bravery and determination come to mind. Bellevue firefighter Phil Pierson needed those traits more than ever when he suffered a stroke that could have killed him, or at least killed his career. "Being a medic and a firefighter is the best job in the world," Pierson said.

There's a sign on the island that Bainbridge Island Fire Chief Hank Teran is excited to take down. Attached to the lobby door of Fire Station 23, it proclaims in bold, red lettering: "THIS STATION IS NOT STAFFED." Since it was built in 1993, the station has served as a training site and a base for department volunteers, but it hasn't been home to full-time firefighters.

Video: Airliner Burns at Chicago O’Hare Airport

CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities say an American Airlines plane caught fire and passengers evacuated on the runway at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says American Airlines Flight 383 departed Chicago for Miami on Friday afternoon when it blew a tire and damaged an engine. Molinaro says the pilot aborted the takeoff and everyone evacuated. There were no injuries.

Television reports showed a large plume of black smoke coming from the Boeing 767, which appeared to be damaged at the rear. Evacuation chutes extended from the plane.

Chicago fire officials said on the department's Twitter account that there was an extra-alarm emergency response at the airport for an "aircraft down."

Agri Drain Warthog Floating Pump

Warthog Floating Pump

The Agri Drain Warthog Floating Pump is a rugged, highly-efficient pump that is assembled in the USA! It pumps water at a rate of 850 gallons-per-minute for fast, efficient water removal or retrieval. The pump weighs approximately 85 pounds, allowing for the set-up and use of the pump to be a one-person job. With the optional Floating Fuel Tank, you can increase the typical run-time from around 1 hour up to approximately 12-15 hours between refueling intervals. Just set it in the water, roll out the hose, pull the cord, and walk away!

The Warthog Floating Pump is great for water removal as well as supplying water from a remote water source. The pump’s 400-foot hose can move water from a flooded area or can take water from a water source and supply it to an area where it is urgently needed.

This affordable pump can be used in a number of applications including: flood relief, emergencies & fire control, municipalities, irrigation, and oil or mining. In agricultural applications, use the pump to drain low spots in the spring to plant through them earlier or to irrigate areas further away from the water source.

The floating design of the pump draws water from just under the surface, drawing cleaner water, avoiding surface debris, and not stirring up debris underneath the pump. The innovative design of the pump takes in water while keeping large debris out, eliminating the need for a filter. The Agri Drain Warthog Floating Pump boasts very low emissions and is one of the most efficient pumping methods available anywhere.
