6 Chicago police officers suspended for mishandling crash involving fire deputy

Six Chicago Police officers have been suspended for giving the third-highest ranking member of the Chicago Fire Department favored treatment after the fire deputy crashed his city-owned SUV near Lake Shore Drive in Lincoln Park. Police Supt. Eddie Johnson suspended all six officers for “improper processing and reporting procedures” in connection with the April 20, 2016 crash involving former Deputy Fire Commissioner John McNicholas.

Woman and Spokane officer recount incredible rescue from burning car

A woman and Spokane Police officer spoke out Sunday about an incredible rescue the two were involved in Friday evening. Spokane Police Officer Tim Schwering was first on scene to a vehicle fire where a woman, Kim Novak, was trapped inside. Officer Schwering said he was "glad he was there at the time.

Early morning fire kills child, injures mother in Spokane Valley

A girl is dead and her mother injured following a house fire in Spokane Valley early Sunday morning. Spokane Valley Fire Department firefighters were called to a fire at 10410 E. Springfield Ave. at about 3 a.m. They received reports of a person possibly trapped in the basement, according to a fire department news release.

Review of fatal Twisp fire calls for more training, possible change to policy on protecting rural homes

Crews near Twisp were working to protect homes on a dead-end road when they were overrun by a wildfire in 2015. Three U.S. Forest Service firefighters died that day, leading to a first-of-its-kind examination of the event and, potentially, new guidelines about the lengths to which crews should go to protect rural homes.
