Police: Pittsburgh firefighter suffered drug overdose at station

Pittsburgh police records indicate that a city firefighter suffered a drug overdose while on duty in a Brookline fire station on New Year's Eve. A police officer was dispatched at 6:23 a.m. to Station 26 on Brookline Boulevard to investigate the report of an overdose, according to a police incident report.

Fire official: 6 children dead after Baltimore fire

Six children were found dead after a fiery house collapse that injured four other family members who escaped from the home in Northeast Baltimore's Cedmont neighborhood Thursday morning, the city Fire Department said. The first of the children's bodies was recovered about 10:30 a.m., Baltimore Fire Department spokesman Chief Roman Clark said.

Bill would let Spokane officials order railroads to go slower through downtown area

Spokane officials could make railroads slow down on their way through the city under a bill proposed Wednesday. SB 5098, sponsored by Sen. Andy Billig, D-Spokane, would give major cities, along with the state Utilities and Transportation Commission, the authority to declare a local safety hazard and set lower speed limits than the federal government allows in certain cases.
