Assaults on firefighters under-reported, new study coming

As Youngstown firefighters begin their day Wednesday following a shooting Monday night that left a firefighter with a gunshot wound to the leg, many are wary and contemplative as they execute their duties. Captain Chris Weaver said the Youngstown Police Department is doing a good job keeping tabs on firefighters following the shooting, but the unsettling feeling is still there.

Men who started 110-acre wildfire to pay state $2.3 million

The three young Vancouver men responsible last year for recklessly setting 110 acres of forest near Woodland on fire will together have to pay the state more than $2.3 million in firefighting costs. As a practical matter, though, they will never be able to pay the costs, and it looks like none of them will spend any time in jail after their initial arrests.

Firefighters put out garage fire in Pasco

A fire broke out in a residential area in Pasco Tuesday morning. Firefighters received multiple calls about smoke and flames seen at the 800 block of West Henry Street. Crews arrived on scene to find a detached garage in flames in the alley. Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly and keep it from spreading to nearby houses.
