Mississippi Senate honors the state's first African American fire chief

A pioneering firefighter is getting some overdue recognition. The Mississippi Senate and the City of Starkville have honored former Starkville fire Chief Willie Johnson with a resolution from the state. Johnson was the first African American fire chief in the state of Mississippi. Johnson’s legacy began in 1988 when he took on the unprecedented role.

Firemen or Firefighter? A Push For The Latter is Making Waves This Week in Maryland

With the Maryland State Firemen's Association Convention in town, a possible name change is looming. Some feel a simple change to 'Firefighter' would be more inclusive for women. The MSFA said this is not the first time they have heard this proposal and that a name change is 100% on the table this year.

Baby left in Florida Safe Haven box adopted by first responder who found her

VIDEO: Six months ago, someone dropped off a newborn baby in Florida’s only Safe Haven box located at Ocala Fire Rescue Station 1. Today, Baby Zoey is a happy and healthy little girl in large part thanks to the Safe Haven Baby Box and the rescuer who opened the box, who would become her adoptive father.
