Firefighters hang Christmas lights after man falls off ladder in Central Pierce County

Erik Gaines had just begun putting up this year's Christmas lights when the accident happened. Right from under his feet, the ladder slipped. Gaines crashed to the ground, breaking several bones in his leg, ankle and shoulder. His family called 911 and a crew from Engine Company 66 arrived at the family house in Puyallup.

Poulsbo Middle School students sickened by suspected carbon monoxide

Emergency crews have responded to Poulsbo Middle School after receiving reports that some students have become ill with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. Jody Matson of the Poulsbo Fire Department said a nurse called for the emergency response after several students began displaying symptoms of carbon monoxide exposure.

Contractor rescued from empty water tank in Grant County

A contractor was rescued after he took a long fall in Grant County Wednesday morning. Officials said the contractor fell about 20 feet into the bottom of an empty water tank near Roads A and 11-Southeast. Grant County Fire Districts 10 and 11 helped with the rescue. Authorities said the victim, a man in his twenties from Western Washington, was transported by LifeFlight to Tri-Cities hospital with serious injuries.

Benton County Fire District 4 passes 2017 budget

The Board of Fire Commissioners for Benton County Fire District 4 passed its 2017 budget at a recent meeting. Overall, the fire district is financially healthy with a balanced budget, another clean audit, and adequate reserve funds in case of an emergency. “We want to thank the community for renewing our levy for emergency medical service,” said Chief Bill Whealan.
